6th Annual Research Symposium Overview 

Location: Memorial Student Center, TAMU, College Station, TX

Date: Friday, March 8th 2019

The 6th Annual ChEGSA Research Symposium was successfully completed on March 8th, 2019. The symposium was attended by over 90 students, faculty, and industrial representatives. Dr. Vikram Gopal, Sernior Vice President of Ascent was the Keynote Speaker. The symposium had 20 oral presentations and 12 poster presentations by graduate students. These presentations highlighted the cutting edge  research conducted in the department.

The symposium was sponsored by Shell, Dow Chemical Company,  NETZSCH The Association of Former Students of Texas A&M, Ascend Performance Materials and was supported by donations from Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center, Texas A&M Energy Institute. 

Awards were given out for those who performed outstandingly in the poster as well as the oral presentation.

5th Annual Research Symposium Overview

Date: Friday, March 9th 2018

The 5th Annual ChEGSA Research Symposium was successfully completed on March 9th, 2018. The symposium was attended by over 130 students, faculty, and industrial representatives. Dr. Scott Armentrout, Director of External Innovation for Eastman Chemical Company was the keynote speaker. The symposium had 24 oral presentations and 35 poster presentations by graduate students. These presentations highlighted the cutting edge  research conducted in the department.

The symposium was sponsored by Eastman Chemical Company, Shell, Dow Chemical Company, The Association of Former Students of Texas A&M, The Kaneka Foundation and was supported by donations from BASF and Student Engineer's Council.

Awards were given out for those who performed outstandingly in the poster as well as the oral presentation.

4th Annual Research Symposium Review 

Location: Memorial Student Center, TAMU, College Station, TX

Date: Friday, March 10th 2017

The 4th Annual ChEGSA Research Symposium was successfully completed on March 10th, 2017. The symposium was attended by over 150 students, faculty, and industrial representatives. As a keynote speaker, Dr. Angela Summers, President of SIS-TECH Solution, inspired graduate students with her talk "From Sci-fi Nerd to Engineer to Vintner – a chemical engineer’s journey". The symposium had 20 oral presentations and 41 poster presentations by graduate students. These presentations highlighted innovative and unique research conducted in the department. 

In an effort to increase interaction between industry and students, Distinguished Speakers were invited to

talk about challenging, real life problems chemical engineers are solving in industry. Dr. Carl Willis (Research Fellow at Kraton Polymers), Dr. Cesar Granda (CTO at Earth Energy Renewables), and Dr. Leo Chiang (Associate Technology Director at The Dow Chemical Company) spoke about projects and research they work on to give students an idea of kinds of projects industry is currently tackling. 

 

The symposium was sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company, Shell, Ascend Performance Materials, Division of Research at Texas A&M University, BASF Chemical Company, The Kaneka Foundation, Student Engineering Council, Dr. Jim Harris and Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

In addition to above mentioned companies, the symposium was attended by Albemarle Corporation, Bryan Research & Engineering (BR&E), ChevronPhillips Chemical Company, Ineos, and Towerjazz Semiconductor Company.  

To conclude the event, a total of six awards were given out for those who performed outstandingly in the poster as well as the oral presentation.

3rd Annual Research Symposium at a Glance

Date: Friday, March 11th 2016

The Symposium witnessed representatives from companies such as The Dow Chemical Company, Chevron, Shell, BASF, INEOS, Kaneka Foundation, Axalta, Schlumberger, Exxon Mobil, Lynntech, Bryan Research & Engineering, Wood Group, and Phillips 66.

The generous sponsorship provided by the aforementioned companies as well as The Dwight Look College of Engineering and Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering was a key to the success of the Symposium. We would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Joe Powell from Shell and Dr. James Harris from Texas A&M University for their generous donations.

The Symposium was attended by over two hundred people including students, faculty members as well as industrial representatives. Dr. Norman E. Byrne, Senior R&D Director of Dow Oil, Gas & Mining Research and Development delivered the keynote address and gave a brilliant insight into the different ventures of Dow and how the company is striving to make an impact in our lives. This motivational address provided a befitting start to the Symposium.

There were a total of sixty one poster presentations and twenty four oral presentations. Each student showcased their original and novel research work to fellow students, members of the faculty as well as the industrial representatives who were the judges for these events. The students’ efforts were lauded by everyone present at the event.

To conclude the event, a total of nine awards were given out for those who performed outstandingly in the poster as well as the oral presentation.

2nd Annual Research Symposium at a Glance 

Location: Memorial Student Center, TAMU, College Station, TX

Date: Friday, March 13th 2015

The one-day event included oral and poster presentations covering a variety of topics: process safety, reaction engineering, process design and optimization, systems biology, material science, nanotechnology and microelectronics. A discussion panel, lunch reception, and break-out sessions also took place. Companies represented were The Dow Chemical Company, Shell, ExxonMobil, BASF, DuPont, Eastman, and SABIC.

A total of one hundred and seventy-two students, faculty and industrial representatives were present. Dr. Joe Powell, Shell chief scientist was the key note speaker for the symposium. Students at the Artie McFerrin department of chemical engineering presented poster and oral presentation. Top presenter in both poster and oral was awarded.

1st ever research symposium was held by ChEGSA on April 4th, 2014. The event was attended by 140 students, faculty, and industrial representatives. 

 

Companies represented were The Dow Chemical Company, Shell, ExxonMobil, Bryan Research & Engineering, BASF,  ATMI, COLHAR, Petrovietnam, Huntsman, DNV GL, Eastman, Phillips 66 and SABIC.

Dr. Liz McDaniel, VP at Huntsman was the key note speaker at the event. Students at the Artie McFerrin department of chemical engineering presented poster and oral presentation. Top presenter in both poster and oral was awarded.
