Rahul Kakodkar, President

Rahul works on optimizing energy systems as a part of Dr Pistikopoulos’ Multi-parametric Optimization and Control group. He is motivated towards providing sustainable pathways to facilitate the integration of alternative and renewable energy sources in the existing energy infrastructure. Outside of work, he likes to dive and paint. 

Pallavi Kumari, Vice-President External Affairs

Pallavi is a fourth-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Joseph Kwon. Her research focuses on root cause and consequence  analysis of rare events in chemical process industries using statistical data analysis methods, process modelling and process control techniques. She received her Bachelor’s from IIT Kanpur and worked in Reliance Industries Limited, India. She enjoys painting, reading and playing table tennis. 

Naveen Kumar Mishra, Vice-President Internal Affairs

Vice President

Naveen is a third-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Benjamin Wilhite. His research is focussed on novel polymeric films for gas separation for hydrogen purification and carbon capture. He received his Bachelor’s from IIT Roorkee. He is a field hockey player and enjoys watching sports.

David OkeibunorExecutive Officer

David is in the 2nd year of his graduate studies. His research work investigates the isotropic-nematic transitions of liquid crystal nanoparticles under the influence of electromagnetic fields for advanced display technologies. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from Lafayette College and avidly enjoys chess, soccer, dance, video games, and the NBA. 

Michael Bae, Events Chair

Michael graduated from Seoul National University in South Korea for a Bachelor and currently a 3rd year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Akbulut’s group. He researches nano-biotechnology and liquid-phase interfacial material science. While he is free, he enjoys video games, Netflixing, swimming, jogging, mountain climbing, playing piano, singing, playing tennis, drinking social, painting, cooking, and driving far away.

 

Rushant Sabnis, Finance Chair

Rushant is a second-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Sun. His research focuses on protein engineering and bacterial interactions. He received his B.Chem Engg from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He enjoys playing the piano, following Formula 1 and playing soccer.

Hyojeong (Annie) Lee, Media Chair

Annie is a second year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Lele. Her research interests include bacterial motility and antibiotic tolerance. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester. Outside of research, she enjoys watching romantic comedies, listening to a wide variety of music, and traveling.

Timothy is a second-year M.S. student working with Dr. Mahmoud El-Halwagi.  His research is primarily focused on the development of alternative pathways for the production of acetic acid using the principles of process integration and optimization.  He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Timothy’s hobbies include birdwatching, 3D printing, and photography.  

Opeyemi (Thomas) Olokede, Webmaster

Thomas is a third-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Holtzapple. His research focuses on implementing innovative ideas for improving the carboxylate platform and the mixalco™ process. He received his B.Eng. from Covenant University Nigeria. He enjoys playing ping pong, racketball, and mobile phone games. 

Ju Hyun (Julie) Oh, Event Coordinator-Professional

Julie is a second-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Micah Green. Her research is focused on RF heating of materials such as CNTs or laser-induced graphene. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Korea University, where she worked on the wearable sensor. She enjoys watching movies, cooking food, and going for a walk.

George Koehm, Event Coordinator-Sports

Edwin Lavi, Event Coordinator-Social

In 2018, Edwin graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.  He is currently a second year Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Zachary Gagnon’s group. His research focuses on leveraging microfluidics and electrokinetics to develop devices capable of detecting and diagnosing various clinical conditions.

Hailing from the mid-size Indiana town of South Bend, George is a second-year M.S. student working with Dr. Mashuga. For his research project, he is designing and prototyping a small scale device for dust minimum ignition energy screening. His undergraduate degree is in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, and having taken a safety course inspired by those at Texas A&M - went on to study safety in the Artie McFerrin Chemical Engineering department.
