What motivated you about your research?

Catalysts play an integral role in many industrial processes and the synthesis of materials we use daily. My research regarding understanding activity-selectivity challenges associated with catalysis will allow me to have a tangible impact on many systems. Specifically, I am excited by the transition to use greener chemistries, including recycling, CO2 utilization, and renewable feedstocks that will rely on catalyst design to be successful.

What is a highlight in your PhD experience and what did you take away from  the experience?

One highlight was definitely getting to serve as ChEGSA president last year. I had the opportunity to engage with so many students, faculty, and staff from our department and across campus, which really solidified for me the wonderful and supportive community we have in the chemical engineering department.

What advice do you have for current graduate students?

Getting your PhD is a marathon, not a sprint. Remember to take some time for yourself to do things you enjoy. It always helps to have something to look forward to, even if it's a Carport coffee (or tea) tomorrow.

Could you tell us about your experience presenting at any conferences, completing any internships, or participation in any other extracurriculars?

I had the opportunity to attend WE25, the Society of Women Engineers Annual Meeting, last week in New Orleans, LA. I was selected as one of 10 students to give a rapid-fire research presentation during one of their sessions. It was really interesting and informative to hear from students and professionals across different engineering disciplines.
