Zhane Ann Tizon received the 2026-27 Chevron Fellowship. Read further to learn more about her motivation for research and her advice to current graduate students.

1. What motivates you about your research?
I have been passionate about energy research since my undergraduate studies in the Philippines. One thing that motivates me is applying my chemical engineering background to advance hydrogen storage, as it remains a key bottleneck in the hydrogen energy system. Knowing that my work can benefit both current and future generations through safer and more sustainable energy inspires me to keep going.
2. What is your favorite aspect about the PhD experience so far?
My favorite part of the PhD experience is knowing that I am contributing to the scientific community through my research. I also value the opportunity to be mentored by professors and senior colleagues, collaborate with other researchers, and engage in meaningful discussions. These experiences have helped me grow both professionally and personally.
3. What advice do you have for current graduate students?
A PhD journey comes with many uncertainties. There will be moments of success and moments of setbacks, but every challenge is an opportunity to become stronger, wiser, and more resilient. Keep moving forward because you never know where your hard work will lead you.
4. What excites you most about the Chevron Fellowship?
I am excited about the opportunity to connect with Chevron experts and learn from their experience in developing safe and efficient hydrogen storage. I also look forward to meeting my co-fellows from different universities, learning about their research, and building lasting collaborations that can help address future energy challenges.
